We were lucky enough to get outside this morning and play. With all the rain ☔️ we’ve been having lately, playtime has really been limited. Jolene had such a great time seeing all of her friends. It’s these memories we will cherish forever! #neighborsandfriends #jenniferestates #childhoodmemories #friends #summerfun

I wanted to share, even though it’s not Veterans Day, every time I see a Vet I make sure to take the time and thank them. Today while shopping 🛒 I saw a vet wearing a navy hat. Instantly I stopped him and thanked him for his service. We talked a bit and he told me how he controlled the radars on the ships to help the pilots fly on and off the ship during the war. I love hearing their stories and the many tales of wartime from any vet. So, even though it’s not a holiday, take the time everyday to thank a vet when you see one. I hope it made his day as much as it made mine being able to hear all about his time in the navy! Such a great man! #thankavet #veteran #navy #kindness #thankful

Social Media Detox Day 2 - Attending the Sunflower Festival
On day 2 of my Social Media Detox we took advantage of the sunny weather to attend the annual Sunflower Festival at Stanley Pond Adventure Farm in Aventura, FL. It was exceptionally hot today, about 93 degrees, with only a slight breeze. So we couldn't spend the entire day there, but we did get two hours in before Jolene was super tired and hot.
Oh course the first stop we made was at the water station. Any place with water is where Jolene has to be. Not to mention it felt really nice when she accidentally splashed me, being so hot out. Every time we found. station she liked it was a battle to tear her away to go to the next station. Our girl just loved every moment of it!
The next activity was her all time favorite all fo the activities that day, sliding down a mega slide! Anyone who knows our daughter knows that she loves a slide. She was not too happy that she had to wait for her daddy to go down instead of going by herself, but after the first time she got used to it. Needless to say, sh was screaming the whole way down "WWWWEEEEEE"! She tustve went down the slide at least 20 times today!
After the slide mommy found a room that had air conditioning for us to take a break in. While relaxing and cooling off we watched a cute video all about the importance of bumble bees. Did you know that if we had not bees we'd have no food?! They are very important to agriculture, and must be protected. Needless to say we are now buying some flowers and plants to help attract more bumble bees and other bees to help pollinate our home garden!
After a short break we found one of the biggest inflatable bounce pads I've ever seen! This thing was HUGE!!!!! Jolene went bananas! She was running back and forth and her daddy was happy that he could get in on the action too! Only bad part was there were no fans and barely any wind going thru the building. So it was like a pressure cooker of heat. Mommy and to put her foot down after about 5-10 minutes and drag us back to the air conditioned room so no one got overheated. However, my husband is like a toddler (himself) when you try and stop him form having fun. But, mommy and to keep everyone safe.
FINally, after yet another mini break, we made it to one of two sunflower fields. They were very big but it was so neat to see these huge flowers in full bloom. We also ran into a photographer (who we were chit chatting with at the entrance) who was nice enough to take a few photos of us in the field.
After the field we walked to the other side of the park to see the horses, air boat rides and more. But, it was so hot and we had already been there for two hours. Jolene was so tired and ready to go. After one more ride down the slide we headed home.
This was such a fun day, and even though we took loads of pictures I managed to stay off my social media for a second day! I don't know if I will be writing a blog every single day of this journey, because on days we do nothing it'd be boring to read, lol. But, I will try and post about this detox journey and how I feel more and more each day.

Social Media Detox Experiment - Day 1
Call me crazy but I’ve decided to do something a little different this year for my birthday. I’m turning 32 in a few weeks, and find myself looking at life a little differently. I’m a wife to an amazing husband, a mom to a beautiful 2 year little girl, and currently pregnant with our second child (another sweet girl). I’ve been put on a light test for the remainder of my pregnancy, so no hiking till the fall, but this has allowed me to think about my other aspects of life. I’ve started to realize that I spend a very large portion of my day scrolling thru Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Not even really posting anything, just scrolling to pass the time. While doing this one day I found an article on how everyone should do a 30 day Social Media Detox. And after searching more on this topic I found a fellow blogger that successfully completed the Detox for the entire 30 days. The results he had were astounding! He claimed that he had a better feel for his emotions, and a more vibrant look on life. He also explained how it forced him to, in a way, go back to a time before social media. Where we had to actually ask how someone was doing instead of just checking their Facebook status. It showed who and what really mattered in his life. This inspired me, and for my birthday month I want to try and complete this Detox. I want to be able to gift myself with something that money can’t but, and that gaining my true and real feelings back. My sense of awareness, empathy for others, and just enjoy my surrounds instead of wondering is someone liked the photo i just posted.
So I’ve set a few rules for myself. One, I can write in this blog as an almost diary to help me get thru those hours of longing for social media content. This blog is connected to my social media accounts automatically. So when I post the blog it auto posts on my social media, therefore I’m not opening the apps (so I’m not cheating).
I also run my husband’s Real Estate business social media and work for Hike Like a woman as their videographer. So I will have to acces YouTube for both of these professions. Therefore, I’m leaving YouTube off the social media list, I’ve gotta work, right?! Lol! And as far as my husband’s business Facebook, Instagram and twitter accounts go.... I downloaded an app that will auto post content to them for the next 30 days so I am not tempted to break my Detox.
With these rules in place I started out my day as I usually do. Getting my daughter up, feeding her breakfast, chasing her around the house to change her clothes, etc... during my little moments of rest I found myself immediately grabbing my phone to look at a Facebook. Completely unaware I was even doing this. It wasn’t until I unlocked my phone and saw the app that I stopped and realized what was happening. This freaked me out! My mind has literally been programmed over time, by my own doing, to just grab for my phone to scroll social media at any given downtime moment. Luckily, I did not open the app and just played a game on my phone instead for the time being. I even found myself thinking about reading some books.... need to get my library card renewed.
To end the day, because I’m tired, pregnant and want to go to bed, I was successful at not opening any social media. I found myself having to really think about what to do with my little moments of free time. And I will admit that I got sucked in a game on my phone for a lot longer than I should have, but I did find myself being more aware of the time I actually spent playing with my daughter.
I’m looking forward to what these next 29 days show me! And I’m also scared of what it’s going to show me too....
If you’re on the trails please leave your bluetoother speaker at home. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve run into people blaring music while 3 miles deeps in the woods. It’s frowned upon peeps. Just as a side note, by doing this your scaring all the pretty animals 🦌
HIKING BINGO (Free Printable Bingo Boards) I created these bingo boards as a fun way to entertain the kiddos while on the trail. Thes...
